As a nearly 100% virtual investment advisor firm with clients in several states, we tend to rely a lot on email to communicate with you. Whether that is in personal text or video messages, our monthly newsletter and other bulk announcements, or sending you forms and appointment reminders, the use of email is a vital part of our relationship with our clients.

Unfortunately, because so much of our communication comes from only a few email addresses, Google, Yahoo, and other email services can mistakenly assume those messages are Spam, and send them to your Spam or Junk folder without your knowledge.

It’s vital to instruct your mail service to let all emails from nVest Advisors reach your inbox! To that end, we’re providing the most current step-by-step instructions for our clients, to “whitelist” emails from nVest Advisors.

Remember that you want to whitelist the entire domain “nvestadvisors.com”, not just your financial advisor’s email.

Here’s how to do it for Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo! Mail, AOL Mail, and iCloud Mail (the five most common email services in the United States):

For Gmail:

  1. Open Gmail and click the gear icon to go to ‘Settings’.
  2. Go to ‘Filters and Blocked Addresses’ and click on ‘Create a new filter’.
  3. In the ‘From’ section, enter the domain you want to whitelist (e.g., @companydomain.com).
  4. Click on ‘Create filter with this search’.
  5. Check ‘Never send it to Spam’ and click ‘Create filter’.

For Outlook:

  1. Open Outlook and go to ‘Settings’ > ‘View all Outlook settings’.
  2. Choose ‘Mail’ > ‘Junk email’.
  3. Under ‘Safe senders and domains’, click ‘Add’.
  4. Enter the domain you wish to whitelist and press ‘Enter’.
  5. Click ‘Save’ at the top of the page.

For Yahoo! Mail:

  1. Click the gear icon and go to ‘More Settings’.
  2. Click on ‘Filters’ and then ‘Add new filters’.
  3. Give the filter a name, and in the ‘Set rules’ section, select ‘contains’ and enter the domain you want to whitelist.
  4. In the ‘Then move the message to this folder’ section, select ‘Inbox’.
  5. Click ‘Save’.

For AOL Mail:

  1. Click on ‘Options’ and select ‘Mail Settings’.
  2. Go to ‘Filter Settings’ and click on ‘Create filter’.
  3. Name your filter, and in the “From” field, enter the domain you want to whitelist.
  4. In the ‘Move to’ dropdown, select ‘Inbox’.
  5. Click ‘Save’.

For iCloud Mail:

  1. Go to iCloud.com and open Mail.
  2. Click on the gear icon at the bottom left corner and select ‘Rules’.
  3. Click ‘Add a Rule’, and in the ‘is from’ field, enter the domain you want to whitelist.
  4. Choose ‘Move to Folder’ and select ‘Inbox’.
  5. Click ‘Done’.

These instructions provide a general approach to whitelisting; however, interfaces and options may change over time, so it might be helpful to consult the support or help section of your email provider for the most up-to-date instructions. Whitelisting by domain ensures that all emails from that domain bypass the spam filter, improving the chances that you won’t miss important communications.
